What Is Vow to Succeed?
The Center for Self-Sufficiency (CFSS) developed “ Vow to Succeed” in order to create recognition and awareness in the community for the programs we sponsor that focus on healthy marriages, healthy relationships and teen pregnancy prevention. We partner with community and faith-based organizations to provide classes to youth, singles, unmarried pregnant women, expectant parents and married couples in the areas of healthy relationships, marriage preparation, marriage enhancement and teen pregnancy prevention.
CFSS is the lead agency of the Milwaukee Marriage Partnership, which was formed after a diverse coalition of nearly 20 agencies came together and successfully applied for more than $10 million in federal grants from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. Through this Healthy Marriage Initiative grant, we are determined to address issues regarding marriage, fatherlessness and poverty in Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha and other selected communities across Wisconsin in order to strengthen the institution of marriage and decrease out-of-wedlock births and divorces in these areas. CFSS was recently awarded funding to continue providing healthy marriage/relationship education through the aforementioned program. Additionally, CFSS was recently awarded the Wisconsin Personal Responsibility and Education Program (PREP) grant to educate youth about preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Furthermore, CFSS is the evaluation partner in the new Milwaukee County Pathways to Responsible Fatherhood Grant, which is designed to address the barriers to responsible fatherhood. For more information about the grants listed above, please click on the Pressroom link. CFSS is grateful for the opportunity to serve individuals through the City of Milwaukee Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), the United Way of Greater Milwaukee Healthy Girls Initiative and the Potawatomi Bingo and Casino's Miracle on Canal Street. CFSS is also thankful for donations by CVS, Walmart and Target.
